#109 – What Are the 7 Chakras and How They Can Help You With Cristi Christensen

This week, I am joined by Cristi Christensen, a Global Embodiment Coach on a mission to empower women and expand their definitions of yoga and well being. Cristi shares her journey of recovering from a back injury she received while training for her dream of joining the US Olympic diving team, and how she found healing through yoga and breath/bodywork. Her new book, Chakra Rituals, helps us understand what chakras are, how to get them in alignment, and why certain imbalances are related to chakra blockages. She shares practical tips about how to get your energy flowing and connect to your highest self. If you have ever wondered what chakras are, this will be a great introduction to all 7! [3:25] Everything is energy, and chakras are the points of various types of energy in our bodies.

[6:44] The chakra system comes out of the Tantric period of time. 

[9:07] Cristi talks about her experience as a gymnast and diver, and broke her back as she was platform diving, training to join the US Olympic diving team. Curiosity led her to her first yoga class, and she had a deep knowing inside that the breath work and movement was extremely healing for her physically and spiritually. 

[16:23] Mantra is a technique to bring you back to awareness and to get your mind off of your mind. 

[17:48] We have 7 main chakras stacked vertically in our physical body, and although each one holds its own intelligence, they dance together to help us serve our highest purpose. 

[21:08] The chakras really are a map to our overall health, wellness, and vitality. The chakra system honors the whole, and even has to do with our financial health, self care, and expression of creativity. 

[22:24] Cristi discusses the 7 root chakras: 

  1. Root Chakra (Muladhara) 
  2. Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana)
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)
  4. Heart Chakra (Anahata)
  5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
  6. Third-Eye Chakra (Ajna)
  7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

[32:30] A spiritual warrior is someone who feels life at the deepest level but is still able to act through it. 

[34:22] Authenticity is knowing that you have a unique gift to give to the world, and have the courage and vulnerability to act upon it. 

[36:21] We are ever changing dynamic beings, and tending to our chakras and health helps us deal with the inevitable changes in our own self and the world around us.

  1. Create sacred space in your home. 
  2. Mudra practice
  3. Movement Practice
  4. Breathing
  5. Journaling
