BETWEEN THE GREAT RESIGNATION & THE GREAT REVOLT, LEADERS NEED TO BETTER SUPPORT EMPLOYEES
There has been a lot of uncertainty and pivoting in business over the past two years. As we get settled into 2022, it’s time to turn our focus on the individuals we work with, and how to best support them in the coming year and beyond.
This week, Hallie and I talk about the top five leadership trends we believe will help businesses thrive this year and how you can get ahead of the game to have a culture of health, joy, and respect. From the right conversations to transparency, you can start to foster trust within your team and help the employees grow while providing space for work/life integration. We talk about examples of each trend, why they’re important, and the benefits of taking some time to focus on honing each one in the coming months.

Timestamps for our leadership trends episode:
[3:36] This December marked 4.5 million people leaving their jobs, which represents three percent of the entire workforce leaving. This is astonishing and shows that while 2020 may have been a year of uncertainty and 2021 was about unpredictability, 2022 is going to be all about the employee.
[5:49] The whole foundation of a company is the people.
[9:29] Trend #1: Value the individual. You can have blanket principles that apply to everyone, but valuing the employees should be at the individual level.
[11:20] Trend #2: Transparent communication. If it’s happening, then address it. Even if it’s not the best news, employees want to see leaders modeling transparency. When you are showing vulnerability, you are also showing strength and humility.
[17:52] When you are transparent even if you don’t know the answer, you foster trust with your team.
[18:23] Why is humility important? Humility shows that you can come up with a solution, take action, and follow it through without worrying that you are right.
[19:24] Trend #3: Focus on personal growth and strengths. Hallie and I discuss how we can foster personal growth in our employees and focus on their individual strengths through both the hiring process and ongoing meetings.
[26:24] Trend #4: It’s all about the employee, and about you becoming a better leader for the people you are leading. Helping employees means you help them become the best version of themselves.
[28:02] Trend: #5 Celebrate meaningful work. People want to know that their work is meaningful. Even if it’s just a small thing; it doesn’t need to be a grandiose gesture. It makes people feel good and take more of a leadership role.
[31:19] How do we encourage work-life presence for our team? First, it’s about being transparent about demands, then having clarity around expectations through ongoing conversations.
