Hallie and I discuss why people take themselves so seriously, and how we can let go in order to enjoy life to the fullest. We first discuss what not taking ourselves so seriously means to us and why people feel the need to fit the mold of what the world says we should be. We then explain how crazy it is that we, as humans, stress over all of these things that really don’t matter in the grand scheme of things. I also emphasize the difference between “not taking yourself seriously” and “not caring”.

[0:27] Hallie talks about what “not taking yourself so seriously” means to her.
[2:08] Your ego is the part of you that takes life so seriously. But what does that really mean?
[5:13] Your psyche is an illusion. It’s only real because you’re paying attention to it.
[7:40] We take ourselves so seriously because we think we need to be what the world says we should be and we focus too much on ourselves.
[9:35] Not taking yourself so seriously doesn’t mean you stop caring about things. It means whatever is happening, you simply experience it without tying your self-concept to it.
[12:30] In the grand scheme of things, does leaving a legacy really matter?
[15:03] How many things have happened in your life that you thought were the worst thing or the best thing that ever happened to you, and now you don’t even think about it?
[17:21] Part of meditation is reminding yourself of these things. It’s about reminding yourself of who your really are.
