I just got back from Keller Williams Family Reunion in Anaheim and man, was it a good one! Keller Williams is disrupting the real estate industry yet again. This time with technology, mortgage, training and coaching, property management, Expansion teams, philanthropy, and more. It’s all designed to ensure our agents have the very best systems, services, and products in order to provide the ultimate experience for our clients. The real estate agent-centric model is far from dead. It’s being revamped, revitalized, and revolutionized by the oracle himself, Gary Keller. I’m really proud to be a part of Keller Williams and on this journey. We are just getting started.

In addition to being thoroughly impressed by all the new services and technology KW is releasing, here are a few nuggets I took away from the five days in Cali.

  1. First Industrial Revolution (end of 18th century to beginning of 19th century): Emergence of mechanization, a process that replaced agriculture with industry as the foundation of the economy. Other notable advancements were the mass extraction of coal, the invention of the steam engine, development of railroads, and new developments in metal shaping which lead to the first factories and cities as we know them today.
  2. Second Industrial Revolution (end of 19th century): New energy sources such as electricity, gas and oil emerged. The steel industry began to develop. Chemical synthesis developed to bring us synthetic fabric, dyes, and fertilizers. Communication was revolutionized with the invention of the telegraph and telephone and transportation methods were also revolutionized with the automobile and plane at the beginning of the 20th century. This was all made possible by the structure of and economic and industrial model around large factories and the organizational model of production as envisioned by Henry Ford.
  3. Third Industrial Revolution (second half of 20th century): Nuclear energy which brought on the rise of electronics, as well as the rise of telecommunications and computers. This led to space research and biotechnology. High level automation in production emerged because of two major inventions – automations (programmable logic controllers) and robots.

We are now in the fourth industrial revolution which is characterized by the internet, the new technology of digitization, and blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres. This allows us to build a new virtual world which we can manipulate from the physical world. These transformations will impact production, management, and government, and more that we haven’t even yet discovered. The new industrial revolution is all about artificial intelligence (AI). Those who embrace it will prosper from growth, wealth, and the piece of mind of fighting your way to the top. Those that fear AI and fear this 4th industrial revolution will become obsolete (like Blockbuster and Borders). Historically, when we enter into an industrial revolution, it is followed by one of the largest economic booms in history. We expect 21 million jobs to be created over the next decade. The industrial revolution will enhance, not restrict our lives. We’ll have more time, which means more freedom to learn, grow, innovate, and invest into human kind. If we all do more, with more time, we will all grow together. Here’s a quick example. How did neanderthals become the modern human? Fire. Yup, fire. Before the discovery and ability to harness fire, we spent all day looking for food and water. Once fire came along, we were able to cook and preserve food and get more nutrients in several meals versus an all day battle of survival. This gave us time. This time allowed us to grow and evolve by creating better weapons, shelter, and methods of communication. Today, that looks like working ON versus IN the business. Fast forward to today and you can see how the 4th industrial revolution will give us even more time through AI and automation. More time equals growth as long as you are using you extra time wisely!

How will you use AI to your advantage? How do you define success and happiness?
