EPISODE #043
Do you spend a lot of time and money recruiting people to your team? Most businesses do.
Without people, the right people, there is no business. So, naturally, companies spend money and time – often a lot of money and time – on advertising and outreach to find talented individuals
In these cases, businesses sometimes think that they have a recruiting problem (i.e., “If only we did x,y and z, we could find the right person!”), but more often than not, it’s actually a mission statement problem. Why? Because a clear, strong, and powerful mission statement will attract the right people to your door over and over again. No need to spend tons of time and money hunting for talent… talent will come to you.
And even if you don’t have a spot for a talented person on your team right in that moment, they become part of your bench of talent. So when you are ready to make that next hire, you know exactly who you’re reaching out to.
On this week’s episode, I talk with Caitlin Frauton, our Director of Marketing at Adam Hergenrother Companies. Her path to our company is an example of the power of a clear company mission. It was the mission statement that attracted Caitlin to our organization, and she sheds light on why it was so powerful for her from both the perspective of an employee and a marketing expert.
We go well beyond the words of the mission statement and talk about what it actually means to live and breathe a mission statement. When you do that, you get the right people in the door… every single time. If you need more talent in your world who are passionate about what your organization does, this is an episode you need to hear.

[2:04] Previous to becoming our Director of Marketing, Caitlin was both a teacher and in the Educational Publishing world. Although she liked what she was doing, both jobs didn’t feel like they were in alignment with her long-term goals. She began the journey of manifesting a workplace that put their values in action and also supported consciousness and spirituality.
[5:10] The more a team feels like they are serving something beyond themselves, the more likely they are to let the negative gossip and destructive water cooler talk go.
[7:06] While Caitlin was in the interview process with us, she liked that there was less focus on small talk and more on the important things such as personal growth and self-education. She saw our team making things happen and talking the talk rather than just walking the walk.
[9:12] A few things Caitlin appreciates most about working on the team include constant communication and weekly check-ins, equality, and respect for other people’s time and goals. Getting together at people’s homes or having out of work BBQ’s are great and an extra bonus, but what really matters is people doing self-work on their off time, so they come into their day as refreshed and energetic as possible.
[11:48] Ping pong tables and free break room beer are added perks, but they are not culture. Real culture is each individual showing up and being a person that makes someone else want to show up for work. It’s not how fancy an office building is, it’s the internal state that we have when we show up and continue throughout the day.
[15:49] Living the mission of your business is about you. Just like exercise, it’s hard in the beginning, but you build that muscle memory.
[18:38] Even if everyone in the business is working on themselves and is consciously showing up, not every day will be perfect and conflict-free. We can see these as moments to practice letting go of the outcome and the part of ourselves that wants to control the world. It is also an opportunity to let that energy run through ourselves and find healthy ways to let it up and out rather than reacting from our lowest self.
[31:58] As our Director of Marketing, Caitlin helped rebrand the company to have a more simplified and clear website. There are portals such as this podcast and the vlog where we can go deeper, but keeping people’s first point of contact with you simple and clean is important.
[37:03] Having both a job that you love and a family you want to spend ample time with can sometimes be a struggle, but Caitlyn appreciates that we give her the tools and insight to try and consciously manage (and thrive in) both.
[40:41] Be authentic! There is a yearning for authenticity, and people can see right through companies that aren’t transparent.
