[6:18] We see people sometimes have a fear of hiring and investing in a new candidate for many reasons. One is that they don’t know what to do, or have no systems or processes in place for training the new hire.
[7:14] The top three mistakes we see people make with acclimating them into the organization:
- Letting go too soon.
- Not setting up clear explanations and accountability measures.
- Not having a solid plan that sets your team members up for success starting day one.
[7:50] Letting go too soon. Within a week (or 30 days) you will usually know whether or not this candidate is a fit. However, you can’t just hire someone and then expect them to be off and running. Your days may be longer for about a month, but the training and coaching you put into the new hire will be worth it down the road. Be sure to sit with your hire and double-check/review their work. If the CEO isn’t able to do it, find someone in the organization that can.
[16:37] The 30-60-90 approach can help you implement how to welcome someone and build clear expectations so that if certain things aren’t met, it’s not confusing to either party why it wasn’t a fit.
[21:32] In order to build an organization, you have to have a footing to stand on. As you scale, you are building a larger foundation to raise the capacity of the input and output. So many businesses aren’t able to scale because they never find that footing.
[24:32] Setting expectations not just around specific wins but also around communication and accountability policies sets the tone for what is going to happen in reality.
[29:57] Set people up for success from day one. Whether it’s providing a handy user’s manual, having the team make a welcome video, or giving them a handwritten card, the little touches matter. Create a situation where they can win and feel as though they are already contributing.
