As you know, we talk a lot about personal growth around here when it comes to business and life, and we’ve been super excited to see the conversation happening more and more in the mainstream lately — including in kids’ movies! Everyone loves a good Disney and PIXAR movie, but who would have thought their latest one, Soul, would be such a poignant look at life, purpose, and what our time on this planet is all about. Hallie and I recently both watched Soul and thought the lessons were the perfect springboard to talk with your kids and even your business team about personal growth. We recap the lessons from the movie, and how it brings up the idea that life is more about living than just finding your purpose.
In this episode, you will learn about:
- Our takeaways from Disney and PIXAR’s Soul, and how we can apply it to spiritual and personal growth.
- While life isn’t about finding our purpose, spending time in the “flow” can tie us between the physical and spiritual worlds.
- How to use this movie as a conversation piece for your family or team to raise thoughts about our purpose in life and what it all means.

[2:11] Disney and PIXAR’s recent movie, Soul, sparked amazing conversations in our lives, and we wanted to bring it here since it really touches upon lessons in both business and spirituality.
[2:56] We recap the movie — spoiler alert! Joe’s passion is playing the piano and performing music, and we see him on life support with his soul floating up to another dimension.
[7:53] Joe is assigned to mentor a troubled soul who has been there for 20,000 years, looking for her passion in the Room of Everything.
[9:11] While we think it’s really about Joe getting back down to Earth to play music and attend his gig, the soul he was mentoring helped him see the lesson he needed was actually about living.
[13:31] We think we know the answers to life when really we are just a speck of dust and a tiny blip on the radar of all of life.
[15:53] Being in the flow state creates a connection between the physical and the spiritual world.
[19:00] Our ego provides us with this “I am” story, that can sometimes keep us from truly and openly experiencing life and the present moment.
