#007 – Stop Waiting for Retirement & Do These 3 Things Today

EPISODE #007

We’re trained to think of our lives very linearly — you go to school to learn, you get a job, you put in your time for 40 or so years, then you retire and have fun. And we’re often taught to use goals as a tool to keep us moving forward, but in reality, we often end up using goals to feel a sense of validation.

We’re convinced that, if we keep moving forward and accomplishing more goals, we’ll eventually find success. Like success is some kind of endpoint or destination that you just arrive at and then you’re done.

But getting a bigger paycheck, driving a fancy car, living in a bigger house — these things won’t make you feel differently. You have to go inward before you go outward.

And when I had my first child, I realized I didn’t want to keep going down this linear path. I didn’t want to want until retirement. I want to have fun and play now, while both my children and I are young. And even though I finished school years ago, I’m definitely not done learning.

So I decided to take my life into my own hands and learn, work, and play every single day, turning every activity into an opportunity to evolve and grow.

You have to be purposeful, you have to take control of your calendar, but it is a powerful and fulfilling way to show up each and every day.
