#036 – Is It Always Good to Get Out of Your Comfort Zone?

EPISODE #036

Here’s a question many of us have probably grappled with at one point – is pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone always the best decision for you? For instance, we’ve all heard the phrase “No pain, no gain.” While in some circumstances that may inspire you to grow, in other circumstances you may completely resist it. Hallie, as she shares on today’s podcast, has been giving this question a lot of thought. Here’s the dilemma in her own words:

“In the personal growth and business worlds you often hear that in order to grow, you have to get out of your comfort zone. I see the value in that. And at a certain point, sometimes getting out of your comfort zone can begin to feel inauthentic to who you are. So how do you know when is the right time to get out of your comfort zone and when to pass on a growth opportunity because you’re being true to yourself?”

It’s an awesome question and, as always, we get to the root of the issue. If you’ve ever struggled with knowing when to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and when not to, then this episode is for you.

[6:40] Look at your life as an opportunity for personal growth. Focus on the events unfolding that make you want to be better and not necessarily what your mind is telling you what you “need” to do to be better.

[7:25] For example, how do you make yourself run faster? You don’t make your mind do that.

[13:15] How many thoughts go through your mind that you don’t act on? Why do you act on the ones that do stand out?

[20:40] Why do you experience anger and how is it that it can sometimes overtake you?

[25:55] When Adam had the idea to start a podcast, why did he decide to jump on that idea instead of letting it float on by?

[28:40] You are here to evolve your soul.

[33:35] How long should someone be doing that uncomfortable thing until it’s okay to do something different?

[42:10] There is a yearning for authenticity and it comes down to deciding to not listen to the mind and what it’s telling you that you should be doing. The mind doesn’t know anything!

[45:45] If you have absolute clarity in life, you will find exactly what you’re looking for.
