#037 – Why Problems & Adversity at Work Are Awesome

You know the moment… you’re working or you’re hanging out with your family, just having a great day, and then all of a sudden something throws you off your game – an unwanted or unexpected event that you have to deal with. It doesn’t really matter the size of the problem (big or small), you feel complete resistance to it and annoyance. You actually physically feel it in your body as your energy gets pulled down. So what do you do?

The immediate reaction for most people is to grin and bear it. Then we try to fix it as soon as possible so we can go back to what we were doing before the problem showed up. But the issue with that is that you are 1) completely resisting the moment and living your mind (aka creating suffering for yourself) and 2) storing that low, frustrated energy in your body instead of letting it move through you.

Over time, those problems you resist stay with you even though what you really wanted was to get past them as quickly as possible. That’s why you find yourself thinking about a problem that happened three days ago (or maybe even three years ago!) when you are just trying to enjoy your drive home from work or you weekend.

[27:00] When adversity comes, don’t fight it. Accept it.
