Language is so important and provides us with a mechanism to express ourselves and convey our experiences. However, the shadow side of language is that it keeps us in a fixed mindset as leaders. This week, we talk about why you should question everything as a leader, including the words you use every day.
In this episode, you will hear about:
- Why language is a beautiful thing, but also something that can cut us off and keep us small
- How to not get lost in words and language when it comes to business
- When we believe our own thoughts and use language with intensity, we can cut ourselves off from another even bigger and better potential outcome

[1:30] The goal is to elevate the people around you so you elevate the experience that you get from the talent around you.
[1:49] Language is helpful and provides context and a way to express ourselves, but as helpful as it is, it has a shadow side to it if we aren’t careful. When we use language to identify who we are, we become attached to the self-image we create and it cuts us off from everything else. We can also feel like something is also missing or just not good enough in our lives because we have a set idea of what it should look like and how we should be fulfilling our sense of self.
[7:29] When you use the word “talent,” you derive a vision of images of what talent looks like based on your own experiences. This can prevent a larger perspective or an up-leveling of consciousness.
[10:08] The word “talent” is just a word, not a set description of how someone should be.
[17:12] Even just a word, such as “success”, can have dozens of interpretations in our language of what images it conjures up for an individual.
[23:32] You can play the role of what is needed in your life and play in the business world, but know that is not everything that makes up your self. When you play the role but know you don’t have to always be that fixed person, you don’t need to protect your sense of self and ego so vigorously and have more smooth sailing experiences than ups and downs.
