#077 – Letting Go — Two Stories of Personal & Spiritual Growth

Personal growth isn’t easy! Turning inwardly and committing to work on yourself is often painful and the journey itself is unending as long as you continue to seek. The rewards along the way are well worth the effort, but what does “letting go” really look like?

This week, we wanted to bring you a powerful conversation between me and two fantastic individuals who have experienced massive personal growth over the past few years. In listening to their stories, you can see what it truly looks like to fully surrender and commit to a spiritual path. JonDavid joined us from Alaska and Amy from Massachusetts. These two successful, thoughtful, and authentic Project | U alumni embody using business as a conduit for personal growth. Throughout our conversation, they speak openly and vulnerably about what arose from them after turning their focus on their inner growth and learning to let go. Listen to hear how the steps Amy and JonDavid took to work on themselves unfolded in their lives and how you can implement some of their wisdom into your life.

In this episode, you will learn about:

  • Personal growth happens everywhere. You don’t need to be in a cave to take a spiritual journey, it can even happen in a hotel conference room!
  • What “letting go” really looks like in the doing-world.
  • Two true stories of powerful personal and spiritual transformation, and what this kind of journey could look like for you.

[3:21] This is a raw conversation with two participants from our year-long full immersion training, Project | U. JonDavid knew he needed to focus more inwardly. He talks about covering up his spiritual needs with work and success, knowing there was an itch inside his energy body the whole time.

[7:28] Committing to a morning routine and better sleep can be a game-changer. JonDavid also talks about setting aside time each day to reflect and meditate.

[11:02] Deep work can be painful and you have to be willing to let go of controlling the process.

[11:27] We discuss the energy and fear that came up for JonDavid and he walks us through some of the physical manifestations.

[20:59] The same pain that made it intense for JonDavid also guided him through it.

[23:08] Our body has a natural influx of energy and when it is released it may do things like shake, tremble, even gag, or have larger responses. We discuss using nature to ground during these times.

[26:40] JonDavid talks about his “ugly cry” moment once he let it all out, and how the sky was a little brighter after the emotional eruptions subsided.

[32:12] Are you willing to let go of everything? If not, you aren’t alone. Most people want a spiritual experience but aren’t willing to give up what they have for enlightenment.

[41:00] Amy talks about Adam stopping to ask her what was up and wrong with her. She felt disengaged which was a rare feeling for her, but she realized it was her ego blocking her and trying to control the experience.

[50:29] Once you do it enough, you actually look forward to these releases!

[1:04:33] You have to have a lot of strength to not lie to yourself in the moment to protect the ego.
