#101 – What It Means To Be a Steward Of Your Capital, Time, and Knowledge

This week, we dive into what it means to be a steward of your life, and why it’s important to use your success to contribute within your organization and at home, rather than for self-gain. When you are a steward of your life, you take responsibility for your own energy and actions. You help your employees, staff, or coworkers balance their resources and time. Hallie and I break down what a steward is, talk about the benefits of being a good steward of your time, resources, and knowledge, and give some motivating words from Warren Buffett and Ray Dalio.

In this episode, you will learn about:

  • What a steward is, and most importantly, what a good steward does.
  • Make sure that at the end of every day, you’ve become just a little bit smarter.
  • How can you start to steward your own life when you are in charge of so much and so many people?

[3:21] Being a steward of your life means you are taking control as though you are the CEO of your own life.

[5:02] A good steward is not for using their success for self-gain but using it for the good of the employee and contribution within the organization.

[5:55] It motivates your team when they see their leader stewarding his or her own energy and resources and gives them something to model.

[6:38] Being a good steward separates you from the center of business and points you towards the greater good of the organization.

[9:36] You don’t want to be in a position where you have pressure on your business to support your lifestyle. You want to be an actively engaged agent to direct capital.

[10:40] Every day, you want to go to bed smarter. When you become a steward of knowledge, you are more able to make decisions and create a compound interest and deep foundation to draw upon.

[11:46] Being a good steward of knowledge is sharing the right information with the right people at the right time.

[13:15] More people will come to you when your knowledge is sound, not used for personal gain. You can go out there and create something larger than you.

[14:22] We discuss how we invested first in people and systems, and kept reinvesting in our people. When you create a world for people to grow and expand, they feel less likely to leave.

[16:13] Ask yourself, how am I stewarding my own personal resources? Are there ways I could be more efficient with my own time, energy, and money?

[19:13] Good stewards continue to evolve and share their knowledge. The more you focus on learning and contribution, the more you get back.
