#103 – Which Comes First — Your Health Or Your Wealth?

You know that prioritizing your health is the most important thing you can do to optimize your productivity and overall wellness, but how much time do you really spend every day focusing on exercise, time for yourself, and quality sleep? Sleep plays such a critical impact on the health of your brain, but so many people in the business world still seem to consider a lack of sleep a badge of honor. That mindset has to change. In this episode, you’ll hear just how important sleep is for keeping your brain healthy, and how prioritizing health over wealth is the better path to success. Hallie and I also talk about grounding your energy with exercise, meditation, healthy eating habits, and, of course, quality sleep. There are so many small, simple steps you can take to begin prioritizing your health and getting yourself to peak performance, starting today. It’s not always easy to prioritize yourself, but it is always worth the effort.

In this episode, you will learn about:

  • The importance of optimizing your brain health and energy levels in everything you do.
  • How to start prioritizing sleep, movement, and your energy.

[1:53] Health and wellness affect everything you do, starting with the hours of sleep you get every night.

[5:45] I view my health and wellness as a lifelong journey, and I work to feel my best in every moment.

[7:31] Keeping your brain sharp is an essential piece of your overall health and wellness. Wherever consciousness, memory, and brain function meet, you want to have a healthy brain for as long as possible.

[11:40] Sleep plays a critical impact on the health of your brain and without nightly REM sleep, the information you are learning gets eliminated from your brain. In other words, a lack of sleep results in a lack of memory and knowledge.

[16:23] More quality sleep leads to more creative thinking and better overall function. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned about the importance of sleep is that it clears harmful toxins out of the brain.

[20:04] Can you ever really catch up on sleep?  Keeping your rhythms constant will make it easier to get up and be productive every day of the week.

[25:45] Without a physical form to ground an overabundance of energy, that energy will manifest itself in stress, anxiety, or nervous energy. Exercise early in the day is the perfect way to release your physical, mental, and spiritual energy.

[31:15] If I offered you a million dollars to give up your health, would you take it? I’m guessing the answer is no for all of us because we know how important our health is. But still, we don’t often prioritize it.

[34:45] What is the difference between professional athletes and the average person that is trying to get healthy? The first lesson we can take from the professionals is how much time they spend resting.
