#127 – The Top Nine Lessons for Owning 2022

LESSONS IN LEADERSHIP

If you reflect on 2021, I bet you learned a lot. This week, I wanted to share some of the lessons I learned that I believe strongly apply to leading yourself and others in 2022. Hallie and I talk about why these lessons are important, and how we bring these lessons into our lives every day. We talk about the concept of meaningful work, taking ownership of your peace and joy, growing your awareness around how you spend your energy and money, and finding the time to slow down and do nothing. I have nine lessons to share with you, so take a listen, and let’s compare notes in our Business Meets Spirituality Facebook Group! To wrap it up, we talk about what we are looking forward to in 2022 to bring in more joy, peace, and clarity.

[5:55] Lesson #1: Make Sure You Acknowledge People’s Meaningful Work. This means you acknowledge not only your own work but also inform individuals on your team that their work is meaningful and valuable to you, and why. This will help you benefit both the person and the organization.

[9:46] How do you let someone know that their work is meaningful when the value of their contribution is subjective?

[13:14] What if your action is meaningful, but not necessarily to you?

[14:28] Lesson #2. No one makes you happy but you. No one is responsible for making you happy, but you. Take full ownership of that.

[16:14] Lesson #3. Learn to sit and just do nothing. It can be that you read, sleep, meditate and slow down, but don’t schedule anything. This time will give you better clarity. Check out our episode on the importance of white space time.

[17:55] Lesson #4: Find, adopt, and never give up on the life hacks that give you peace. Find habits that support you being a more joyful and peaceful person. Don’t wait for a burning desire, and once you find them, make them a staple in your life. For me, it’s exercise, meditation, and journaling. See my habits in a typical working day in my life.

[21:25] Lesson #5: There’s no one better at being you than you.

[22:58] Lesson #6: Luxury can be a necessity. Be very careful about how you spend your money. Be careful in how you track and spend your money, and don’t get caught up thinking luxury is a necessity to the point where it causes you to feel trapped and beholden to it. Check out this episode for some ideas on how to plan your budget.

[24:33] Lesson #7: Time is an illusion, yet very real. The form world is very real but time is manmade. Don’t get so caught up in time that you get caught up and not enjoy the present moment. Here’s how to fight time anxiety.

[25:31] Lesson #8: At the end of the day, what you really want is peace. What is your operating system at? Is it peaceful and joyful, or is it fear-based or anxious?

[27:42] Lesson #9: Let go and fight. Whenever a challenge shows up, let go of the need to be right and vindicated, then fight.
