Hallie and I tap into our youthful side this week, as we share the framework I use for teaching my kids about life, exploring their own unique identities, and what it truly means to have passion. The framework we use here can be used to explore your relationship with anyone: spouse, co-worker, friend, etc. I talk about each of my kids, Sienna, Asher, and Maddy, and how their personalities and perspectives are all vastly different, along with the life lessons I try and teach them every day about kindness, having grit, and embracing your utter weirdness. Hallie and I both talk about the feelings we’ve experienced going back into our journals, and why it’s not always the easiest taking a trip down memory lane.

[2:12] I share why I have made it a daily practice ever since my kids were born to journal about them every day. I use Evernote, and it’s a great way for me to capture all the things my kids do and say on a regular basis so that they have it to keep for the rest of their lives as well.
[4:30] Hallie talks about why it’s hard to back and read her own journal.
[6:58] I go into detail about each of my kids, Sienna, Asher, and Maddy, and their unique attributes and qualities.

[18:50] Sometimes a “time out” can be even just a minute for the child to take a deep breath and gain clarity on their situation.
[24:45] I share how my wife and I stay united with the kids on our rules.
[26:30] Everyone is weird in their own way. Embrace it!
[32:09] Try to teach your kids that life in itself is the experience. The more passion you have for life in general, the more you create a flow rather than just hoping that one thing will lead you to have passion.
