As high-achievers, we work hard to build careers and businesses that we believe will bring us a fulfilling life. The irony is that we convince ourselves it’s necessary to work hard now so we can enjoy life more fully later. So how do we avoid this trap of simply “getting through the day” in order to appreciate some ever elusive point in the future?
The secret is to create space to learn, work and play, every day.
The Typical Inner Experience
In our quest for happiness and fulfillment, we tend to structure our lives in a way that minimizes discomfort and maximizes pleasure—we wake up each day hoping to avoid pain and experience moments of joy. Our minds instantly start going through a mental checklist of what the day holds and what might disturb us the most.
However, it’s important to recognize that the majority of the discomfort we anticipate is self-created, a product of our own thoughts and projections.
To truly learn, work, and play every day, it’s essential to understand and accept who you are. Rather than attaching yourself to external outcomes, you should view these activities as expressions of your true self. By detaching from your attachments, you can approach each day with a fresh perspective and avoid unnecessary suffering.
When everything becomes an opportunity for growth, fulfillment, and enjoyment, you evolve into someone who can fully experience the beauty of life.
Learn, Work, and Play Every Day
The Learning Journey
Learning is not confined to specific stages of life or formal educational institutions. It is an ever-present opportunity for growth and development. Whether we learn from books, podcasts, personal experiences, or interactions with others, the act of learning enhances our understanding of the world and ourselves. From honing new skills to expanding our knowledge base, learning can enrich our lives every day.
The Work-Life Conundrum
Traditionally, we have compartmentalized our lives into distinct phases: learning, working, and retirement. However, this compartmentalization limits our ability to experience the fullness of life. Instead of viewing work as a mundane necessity, we can redefine work as a means to contribute, grow, and engage with our passions. Embracing work as a part of our daily lives allows us to express our talents and make a positive impact on the world.
The Transformative Power of Play
Playfulness is often associated with childhood, but it is essential for individuals of all ages. Embracing play can bring joy, creativity, and a sense of liberation into our daily lives. Play can take many forms, from engaging in hobbies to spending quality time with loved ones. By incorporating playfulness into our routine, we infuse our experiences with enthusiasm and cultivate a zest for life
A Life of Fulfillment, Daily
Embracing the concept of continuous learning, fulfilling work, and joyous play every single day allows us to transcend the limitations of external expectations and live a more enriching life. By understanding who we are, relinquishing attachments, and appreciating the present moment, we can integrate these three aspects seamlessly into our daily routines.
