There’s a great quote by renowned football coach Tony Dungy that says “Goals have a beginning and an end. Purpose doesn’t. Purpose is what we live for.” Hallie and I break down that quote this week and expand on the fact that, while you should definitely set goals, you should keep in mind that you aren’t going to feel any different when you actually hit them. We talk about how the first step is setting a goal, then letting go of the outcome, and how if you’re setting the goal to make yourself feel better internally or for ultimate fulfillment, you’re doing it the wrong way. We talk about the 200% life, which includes 100% of what happens in our outer world (business and material things) and 100% of what happens in our inner world (spirituality, emotions, personal growth), and how you can play in the physical world and set goals while remaining connected to the inner one.

[3:40] Goals are wonderful to have to stay laser-focused and to keep you rowing in a direction, but they aren’t the end-all-be-all.
[4:21] The challenge becomes when people become the goal. Life becomes so future-focused that you miss the present moment.
[6:14] Waiting to feel higher amounts of energy inside when you hit your goal is a problem because we almost get addicted to thinking that goals are the solution to us feeling good.
[9:17] If you’re setting the goal to make yourself feel better internally or for ultimate fulfillment, you’re doing it the wrong way.
[14:06] The first step is setting up a goal, but then you have to let go of the outcome.
[19:27] The minute you have this purpose of waking up with tons of joy and energy, you are helping everybody around you at a deeper level.
[23:14] How does this conversation fit into enlightenment? The body is a host for consciousness. If something’s not bringing you joy, peace, and acceptance, then why are you doing it?
[31:54] Oftentimes, it’s so much less complex than we make it. In general, the majority of people want a simpler life than the rest of the world telling us what we want.
[32:12] It really comes down to the frame of reference of how you look at things.
[32:57] In the model of the 200% life, you live 100% in the physical world and 100% in the spiritual world. It’s fine to have goals in the physical world, but it’s important to know that it’s fleeting and we always need to go back to our inner world.
[43:10] The purpose for all of us is to experience the time between birth and death.
