BONUS – The 200% Life at Livian Advance

Today’s bonus episode is a recording of a speech Adam gave at Livian’s annual Advance conference, titled The 200% Life. In his speech, Adam touches on the many facets of living a 200% life, from the difference between our inner and outer worlds, to recognizing the little voice (or the ego) inside your head, to detaching yourself from the outcome and realizing that vacations don’t solve anything. This episode is a great place to start if you are beginning your spiritual journey, or the perfect reference point to return to if you need a few reminders in your current journey.

[0:28] Adam explains what it means to live a 200% life, and breaks down the difference between our inner world and our outer world. Everything we do in the outer world is an attempt to make our inner world perfect, but life doesn’t work like that.

[3:40] “There is nothing more important to your true growth than realizing that you are not the voice of the mind. You are the one who hears it.” – Michael Singer

[5:20] We all play different roles in life, but none of them are really you. Your ego is the identity you have built for yourself and the mask through which you see the world.

[10:09] Life owes you nothing. The galaxy has been around for 13.8 billion years and you are a blip on the timeline.

[12:15] Everyone has a voice in their head. The point of meditation is to pause, acknowledge that voice, and move on. Living authentically means you no longer let that voice run your life.

[19:10] Adam shares the story of the Buddha and how the Buddha discovered that all of life is suffering, which stems from our preferences. The only way to overcome it is to let go of your likes and dislikes.

[24:20] Spirituality is not about renouncing things. It’s about having fun and creating while we’re here, without being tied to the outcome!

[25:43] The ego resides in “doing”, which is why it’s never satisfied. There’s nothing wrong with the “doing” world, but we have to focus on “being” first. Once we can achieve that, we can enjoy the doing.

[28:55] Once you can detach yourself from the outcome, you become a fierce competitor.

[30:08] Adam describes his mental morning routine. His life’s purpose is to raise the moment that is in front of him so that the moment is better for having passed by his consciousness.

[36:38] Vacations don’t solve anything! There isn’t a better moment than there is right now.

[38:52] The only reason we are afraid of death is because we feel like we haven’t experienced something and we’re still trying to get the experience.
